Il Calvario / The Calvary
Fu realizzato nella seconda metà del XIX secolo da Giuseppe Renato Greco, un artigiano che dedicò la
sua vita alla costruzione e manutenzione dell’opera. Egli utilizzò frammenti e pezzi di ceramiche,
maioliche e porcellane per realizzare le decorazioni del monumento. L’opera raffigura le tappe della
Passione di Nostro Signore Gesù Cristo riproducendone alcuni dei luoghi significativi. Per l’originalità e
la pregevole fattura, l’opera è quasi un museo a cielo aperto della maiolica del XVII-XIX secolo.

The Calvary was built in the second half of the 19th century by Giuseppe Renato Greco, a craftsman
who devoted his entire life to the construction and maintenance of his work. He skillfully used
fragments and pieces of pottery and porcelain, creating the decoration of his monument. The work
represents the stages of the Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ reproducing its most significant places.
Thanks to the witness of faith it represents, its originality and fine workmanship, the Calvary can be
described as an open-air museum of the 17th - 19th centuries majolica.
